Dal Vada

Hello All

Happy Navratri to all :) :) ... I will pray to Ma Durga to bless us all with good health and fortune... Every one enjoy these nine days of Mata :) :)

Here in US at my place... slowly slowly winter season started... Now days the temperature will go down to 7 Degree Celsius. So it feels too cold... and as you know more cold... more hunger and at the end we need super hot food to eat :) :)...

Daily what to prepare is a big question for everyone... Thinking and thinking.. but the at the end we will not able to finalize the dish to prepare... In winter mostly we like to eat hot food... but boring chapati and curry will not fulfill our hunger... Something new and that too nutritious to stay away from diseases... Going out and eating is easier in India... But here in US we need to prepare mostly at home due to less options here....

Mostly kids will not eat dal , spinach , bottle guard , etc... So we need to make something yummy with these things in order to incorporate all these necessary stuff in our daily diet... Even we young ones also make faces in eating all these... ;P ... Even me and my husband are so choosy in eating... I personally don't like to eat dal much... and Spinach also...

But these both are important as part of nutrition...So I decided to make something yummy ...And came out with Dal Vadas... Goodness of Spinach and All kinds of DAL... Mission Accomplished... And trust me not a single will left :) :) .... I know its oily but once a while we can eat fried food also and these Vada's will not take much oil to fry :) :)

So let's start with the recipe ..

Ingredients :-

1 cup yellow moong daal
1 cup green moong daal
1 cup chana dal
2 tsp of cumin seeds
6-7 green chilles
1 tsp grated ginger
2 onions finely chopped
1 bundle of Spinach washed and chopped
1/2 cup of chopped coriander
1/2 cup of gram flour or besan
1/4 cup of roasted peanuts
oil to fry
1 tsp of coriander powder
1 tsp of red chilly powder
1 tsp of cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
salt to taste

Procedure :-

Soaked all the dal's for 4-5 hrs. Then grind with minimum amount of water and cumin seeds. Then add all the things in a go to form a paste. If you feel the mixture is too watery for you .. you can increase the amount of Gram flour in the mixture.Once the oil is hot drop the Vada's in oil.Cook on medium flame till golden brown.Take out on tissue paper. And serve hot with your favorite chutney...

These Vada's are good in freeze for 2-3 days.

Enjoy these yummy hot Snack in winter with your family and friends.. Do let me know your views on it... Will come back soon with new recipe and as promised simple recipe... till then take care..Enjoy these 9 days of Navratri... Haloo re Halooo.............

Chana Puri

Hello All

Ganpati went back to his home... and now the days for honoring and paying tribute to our ancestors started.... Shradh month started... It will be for 16days.. Shradh month ending will mark beginning of Nav Durga...

Shradh marks an important time for performing the ritual of Tarpan. Performing Tarpan in Shradh is a way of remembering, thanksgiving and honoring the ancestors for whatever they have given to the present generations. It is a way of telling them that they are still an important part of the family and they still reside in our memories. Period of Shradh is also known as Pitru Paksha...

In these days mostly will prepare puri sabhji kheer... that is Indian Satvik Bhojan in the memory of our ancestors and then we will invite Brahmans for bhojan after performing ritual and puja... it is believed that if the rituals of Shradh are performed with full faith, devotion and dedication the ancestors feel satisfied. Ancestors protect us from all evils, negativity and bless us.
