Rava Dosa Or Semolina Dosa

Hello Everyone

Its April here... Soon school and college summer holidays will begin... Now kids will be home most of the time... And it will be sunny out there... Now days its will be too hot outside... Global warming is increasing year by year ...From April only we can feel the heat.. May and June will be the worse months for going out.Its better to go out in evenings only or early mornings...  We should be properly hydrated all the time with water or fresh juices prepared at home... Also keep water on your home window or balcony or on upper roof of your home for birds and animals.. It will be very helpful for them to get clean water at your place...Also don't use AC much.. rather then use old techniques to keep your home and yourself cool in these summer days.. Longtime exposure to AC is not at all good for your health and also to your wallet... So stay cool and hydrated this summer :) :)

When kids at home mummy's need to be extra hardworking.Full time kids want some or other thing to eat...Also they will demand for variety food.Going outside for dinner or lunch once in a while is great for everyone. But that is only once in a while.Other days we need to cook at home.In summers,  we need some dishes which can be made soon and that too taste yummy. As kids will not wait for more time. They will be hanging around you.I am here to help you out from this situation. There are many such quick recipes are on my blog. And today also we are here to discuss one yummy recipe here.. "Rava Dosa".. Dosa is favorite of everyone mostly...There are different varieties of dosa we can prepare. But Rava Dosa is quickest to be done as it doesn't requires soaking or fermenting. So let's start with recipe :-

Ingredients :-

1 cup Semolina or Rava
1 cup Rice flour
1/2 cup Maida or All Purpose Flour
1 tsp Cumin seeds
7-8 Chopped curry leaves
1 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
2-3 tsp Curd or yogurt
3-4 green chilly finely chopped(optional)
Oil for roasting dosa
salt to taste
Water to make batter

Procedure :-

In a bowl take semolina or rava , rice flour and maida.Add cumin seeds , curd , curry leaves , onions and salt.Mix them well. Now with the help of water make a batter with dropping consistency. It will be very thin batter like water.Let it rest for 20-25 mins.

After resting time is over take a thin nonstick tawa or pan.Heat it at medium high heat.Meanwhile batter would have became thick. So add more water to make it look like buttermilk in consistency. Sprinkle some oil and then chopped onions on tawa.Once onions starts making noise of cooking, take a lad full of batter and sprinkle on hot tawa.It will form Porous as soon as you spread it.

You can use your hands and sprinkle the dosa to have restaurant style nice Rava dosa. Now after you have made dosa, pour ghee or oil over it and on sides.Cook it on medium heat.Rava Dosa will take more time to cook then normal dosa.Once done try to take out carefully with spatula.Serve hot with chutney of your choice.Mix batter everytime when you pour a new dosa as rava settles down at the bottom of bowl.

Notes :-

1) Use flat pan for making Rava dosa.So that you get evenly spread crispy and thin dosa.

2) Don't add more yogurt or curd to batter. This will make your dosa soggy.

3) Consistency of batter should be thin.

4) For crispy dosa you need to used some more amount of oil.

Then it may be hindu... sikh .. Christian or Muslim or any other religion festival.. I love them all... As at the end they all bring us together... and here is the essence of celebrating them .... Message is deep inside them... but now days People just splitted there part away from other religion celebration. One should always understand that every religion or caste or creed belongs to one almighty... We people divided them into different forms... Today we will discuss here a great local food of UP and Bihar. Its "Daal Farae". Very famous and tasty snack. Its quiet healthy and nutritious dish.We can say it as a steamed rice flour dumplings stuffed with spicy lentils. They are soft , crunchy , yummy , spicy and tasty to eat.Its prepared specially on the occasion of Karwachauth in UP and Bihar. Karwachauth is festival of Love and respect , fasting done by ladies for there long life of husband.

I love any dish made with rice or rice flour. So when I came across this snack, thought to try it.And in first try I am amazed with this Chana Dal Dumplings.Awesome taste , loved every bite of it.Now this is popular dish made in my home :) :).These can be enjoyed anytime of the day with your family and friends.Goes good with Coriander Chutney or Tamarind Chutney. So lets start with the recipe :-

Ingredients :-

1 cup Rice Flour
1 cup Chana Dal ( Split Bengal Gram)
1 inch Ginger
1 tsp Garlic Paste( optional)
3-4 Green chilies ( as per your taste)
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
Salt Per Taste
Luke warm water to kneed soft Dough

For Tempering :-

2 tbsp of Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 tsp Asafoetida
4-6 Curry Leaves (optional)
1/2 cup of chopped Coriander Leaves

Procedure :-

Soak Chana dal for 3-4 Hours. Then Corasly Grind it with Green Chili and Ginger.Mix salt , turmeric Powder , Garam Masala and Garlic paste.Give a good mix.Stuffing is ready.

In a bowl take Rice flour and add little salt.Knead the dough with Luke warm water with hands. As rice flour will be sticky. After kneading the dough apply 2tsp of oil on the dough and let it rest for some time.Roll a portion of dough into a from of Poori Or a round small Chapati , add 1 tsp of stuffing on one half side. And with the help of other side fold it like a pattis or gujiya. You can give any shape you want.Seal the edges properly by applying some water.

There are two ways of cooking this Dumplings:-

1)Either you steam them in Steamer.
2)Boil them in water. In a minute or two these dumplings will come on surface. Take them out when done.

Both the ways it will be good.I tried in both this ways. And personally I liked steamed one more.
So put a steamer on gas with 1 Lt of water and close the lid.Once steam formed , use the steamer plate attachment to gently put rice dumplings in it.You can grease the steamer plate with little oil so that dumplings should not stick to the plate.Cover the lid and cook it for around 15-25 minutes.

Once done you can check with the knife or tooth pick.Let the dumplings cool down for sometime. After that cut them into small pieces. Some people like to eat at this point of time with chutney. But I prefer the tempering version.

So take another pan add 3tbsp of oil.Once hot add asafotedia , mustard seeds.Once splutter add curry leaves. Then add pieces of faras or dumplings.Fry them till little crisp.Garnish with Fresh chopped Coriander leaves.Serve hot with Tamarind or Green Chutney.Tomato Sauce also goes fine with it.

So enjoy with your friends and family this amazing snack.Let me know your views and queries .Will be back soon with new recipe.Till then Cia.Be healthy and be foodiee...

Suji or Rava appams is a very light dish which is made from suji. For making this you need a special pan known as appam pan. This pan is very good for cooking with very less oil.You can also prepare kofta's , pakodas or dahi wadas with very minimal oil.It can be easily purchased from market or online.Below is the pic of appam pan:-

So let's start with the recipe. Its very easy to make.

First pour some oil on nonstick tawa or pan and once hot sprinkle some mustard seeds and curry leaves.Once splutter pour one big spoon batter on pan and make it spread on pan.Cover it .Let ot sook onside and the flip it.This time don't cover it. If you want you can drizzle oils on corner to make it crispy.

Healthy mind reside in healthy body. And healthy body comes from healthy food.So today I will be discussing here a healthy recipe  made with another healthier component  Broken wheat or Daliya. Broken wheat or daliya benefits to keep your digestive tract healthy.  It is absorbed slowly and helps to balance blood sugar in your body. Its high fiber content, makes you feel fuller on less food, so it can help you loose weight or even belly fat. Daliya is a good source of the daily requirement of fiber and manganese.
